Caballo, V. E. & Salazar, I. C. (eds.) (2019). Naïve. The deception of alternative therapies. Madrid: Siglo XXI.

A group of university professors and clinical psychologists, with great experience behind them and worried about the wide spread that a whole series of pseudotherapies are having, has decided to explain to the public, in an accessible language, what 10 of them consist of (homeopathy , reiki, Bach flowers, family constellations, acupuncture, neurolinguistic programming, therapy of past lives, rebirthing, dianetics and bioneuroemotion), what its defenders claim as fundamental principles thereof, the great lie of the alleged therapeutic effects and a proposal of more effective scientific psychological alternatives. Book in Spanish Siglo XXI Publisher.

Caballo, V. E., Salazar, I. C., & Garrido, L. (in press). Multidimensional Intervention for Social Anxiety (MISA) program. Patient Workbook.

The MISA program includes a Therapist’s Guide and a Patient’s workbook. This is the patient’s workbook which is designed to be an essential part of the work of patients who are immersed in the program, with numerous self-reports (up to 59 tables), explanatory and registration figures (38) and practical exercises (up to 120). Patients can write directly in this book, thus carrying a real diary of their active participation in the program.
The MISA program is applied in a group format (although it could be adapted to an individual format) and it’s advisable that participants of the program bring with them in every session their patient’s workbook in order to follow some in-session exercises and to register many of the homework assignments. Book in English.

Caballo, V. E., Salazar, I. C., Garrido, L., Irurtia, M. J., & Hofmann, S. H. (in press). Multidimensional Intervention for Social Anxiety (MISA) program. Therapist’s Guide.

This book represents a novel approach towards the treatment of social anxiety, the Multidimensional Intervention for Social Anxiety (MISA) program. We believe that currently there is nothing similar on the field. There are several characteristics that make it an intervention different from what has been used up to now. The first is that it focuses on the five dimensions of social anxiety that our research team has found working with this construct over more than 10 years, including 18 countries.
A second novel feature is that we have put together in the same program some of the empirically validated techniques commonly used in the treatment of social anxiety such as social skills training, exposure and cognitive restructuring, with strategies developed within the so-called “third-generation therapies”, such as mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). We believe that the MISA program constitutes a powerful program for the treatment of social anxiety, in general, and of social anxiety disorder (or social phobia), in particular, which includes the most powerful intervention strategies available today. The duration of the program includes 15 weekly group sessions of intervention, not counting the sessions of assessment both pre/post-treatment and follow-up. Book in English.

Arrivillaga, M., Correa, D. & Salazar, I. C. (eds.) (2007), Health Psychoogy. Comprehensive approach to chronic disease. Bogota: El Manual Moderno.

Chronic diseases have increased markedly, bringing significant negative consequences for those affected and causing high social and health costs. A central issue is that these diseases are related to human behavior, which is why their treatment should not focus exclusively on medical aspects. This book refers to the forms of psychological treatment for various medical diseases.. Editorial El Manual Moderno.
